Last week, I had the pleasure of organizing a Lemonade / Treats stand experience for the kids in my community. It was a great opportunity for the kids to learn about entrepreneurship, marketing, and customer service. As someone who has experience in business, I thought it would be a great experience for the kids to learn about entrepreneurship and develop crucial skills that will be useful in their future lives.
I took the responsibility of guiding the kids through the entire process, from choosing their product to organizing the stand on the final day. It was an exciting and rewarding experience, and in this blog post, I will outline the organization process and the lessons that the kids learned during the process.
The Product
The first step in organizing the stand was helping the kids choose their product. We started with a simple lemonade but it quickly evolved into more delectable recipes such as Oreo milkshake, chocolate cookies and ice creams! Clearly, the kids’ excitement was palpable! We decided on one product per each child. We also discussed the importance of quality control and hygiene while preparing any food.
We spent a lot of time discussing the different variations of the recipes, and the kids were excited to try out different flavors. They learned that the recipe is not limited to a standard definition but can be customized to their preferences and tastes.
Understanding Product Pricing
Once we had finalized the product, we detailed the list of ingredients required to make each product, cost of each ingredient and the number of units that we will make of each product. Once we knew the cost price, we moved on to the pricing process. I explained to the kids that they needed to set a price that would cover their costs and also make a profit. We discussed the concept of profit and how it is essential for any business to survive.
The kids came up with different pricing strategies, and we discussed the pros and cons of each strategy. They learned that pricing is not just about covering the costs but also about creating value for the customers.
Understanding Marketing
Next, we created posters to market our Treats stand. The kids used their creativity to design posters that were eye-catching and informative. We went door to door in the community to distribute the posters and inform people about the stand. The kids were excited to talk to people and promote their product.
We also pasted our posters in high traffic community areas such as bill boards and mailboxes.
The Stand
On the final day, we organized our “Terrific Treats” stand in our community cul-de-sac. The kids were responsible for setting up the stand and displaying the posters. They were also in charge of preparing and serving their respective treats. It was heartwarming to see the kids work together as a team and take ownership of the entire process.
They were excited to interact with the customers and provide excellent customer service. They learned that customer service is not just about selling the product but also about creating a positive experience for the customers.
Conclusion
The Lemonade stand experience was a great learning opportunity for the kids in my community. They learned about entrepreneurship, marketing, customer service, and teamwork. It was a joy to see the kids’ faces light up as they interacted with customers and made sales. I hope that this experience has inspired them to become future entrepreneurs and leaders.
I also realized that organizing this experience was a great way to give back to the community. It was an excellent opportunity to connect with the kids and their families and make a positive impact on their lives. I hope that this experience will encourage more people to organize similar events and contribute to their communities.
